Before you book refrigerated freight

The details a reefer load needs before it's booked: setpoint, run mode, pulp temperatures and the paperwork that protects you.

Most refrigerated claims start with a detail nobody wrote down. Agree these before the truck is booked, and put them on the rate confirmation and the bill of lading.

Setpoint and run mode

Give one exact temperature, not a range, and say whether the unit runs continuous or start-stop (cycle). Many fresh products need continuous airflow.

Pre-cooling

Ask for the trailer to be pre-cooled to the setpoint before it reaches the dock. A warm trailer can't pull heat out of a full load quickly.

Product temperature at loading

A reefer holds temperature; it isn't built to cool product down. Make sure product is at temperature when it's loaded, and note the pulp temperatures on the bill of lading.

Loading and airflow

Leave space for air to move around the pallets and don't block the return air at the front of the trailer.

Paperwork and records

  • Setpoint and run mode on the bill of lading.
  • Seal number recorded at pickup.
  • A temperature download available on request at delivery.

Tell us your product, setpoint and appointment times when you ask for a rate, and we'll match the load with a carrier that has the right equipment.
